Ford To Start Using Tesla Charging Connector
Ford Motor Company has made a significant agreement with Tesla Motors that will transform the charging experience for Ford electric vehicle (EV) owners. Starting in Spring 2024, Ford customers will gain access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers located throughout the United States and Canada. This collaboration effectively doubles the number of fast-chargers available for Ford EV customers.
āThis is great news for our customers who will have unprecedented access to the largest network of fast-chargers in the U.S. and Canada with 12,000+ Tesla Superchargers plus 10,000+ fast-chargers already in the BlueOval Charge Network,ā said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. āWidespread access to fast-charging is absolutely vital to our growth as an EV brand, and this breakthrough agreement comes as we are ramping up production of our popular Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, and preparing to launch a series of next-generation EVs starting in 2025.ā
Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Over the past decade, we have built an industry-leading Charging Network that enables travel freedom and provides charging confidence for Tesla owners. We are thrilled to fulfill our mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy by welcoming Ford owners and other electric vehicles that adopt NACS to our extensive network of Superchargers across North America.”
To facilitate this integration, Ford EVs such as the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit will come equipped with a Tesla-developed adapter. This adapter enables vehicles with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port to access Tesla’s V3 Superchargers. However, beginning in 2025, Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS charge port. This means direct access to Tesla Superchargers without the need for an adapter, providing an enhanced charging experience for Ford EV customers.
Marin Gjaja, Chief Customer Officer of Ford Model E, praised Tesla’s leadership in creating a reliable and efficient charging system. Gjaja remarked, “Tesla has been at the forefront of creating a robust and efficient charging system, and we are pleased to collaborate in a way that benefits customers and promotes EV adoption. The Tesla Supercharger network offers excellent reliability, and the NACS plug is smaller and lighter, providing an overall superior experience for customers.”
At Doggett Ford, we are extremely excited about this groundbreaking collaboration between Ford and Tesla. This partnership signifies a significant milestone in the EV industry and reinforces a shared vision for a sustainable future. With an extensive charging network, cutting-edge technology, and a growing lineup of exceptional EVs, Ford is leading the way towards a greener tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates on new and exciting EV models and the ever-expanding BlueOval Charge Network.
